Simulating Pedestrian Navigation Behavior Using a Probabilistic Model

چکیده
The Intermodal Simulator for the Analysis of Pedestrian Traffic (ISAPT) is being developed for the purpose of modeling pedestrian traffic within intermodal facilities, such that designers may evaluate the impact of building design on the Level of Service provided to pedestrians. The ISAPT system models each pedestrian’s behavior individually and the collective behavior of the crowd is allowed to emerge from the interactions between individuals. This paper presents a probabilistic approach for pedestrian navigation and demonstrates its application in example navigational scenarios along a pedestrian corridor.

Emergent Crowd Behavior from the Microsimulation of Individual Pedestrians
Modeling pedestrian traffic at the micro-level is a relatively young research area. The key to success is driven on the ability to appropriately model crowd behavior that arises in pedestrian traffic. One method of validation for such simulation models examines their ability to reproduce commonly observed crowd behavior. This paper demonstrates how commonly observed crowd behavior emerges from ...
متن کاملInterpretation and Communication of Pedestrian Intentions Using Braid Groups
We present a novel framework for socially competent pedestrian navigation based on understanding pedestrians’ intentions and planning intent-expressive robot motion. We model pedestrians’ intentions as combinations of intended topological routes and intended destinations. The core of this approach is a novel topological representation of a pedestrian scene, based on braid groups. This represent...
متن کاملPedestrian Gap Acceptance Logit Model in Unsignalized Crosswalks Conflict Zone
Pedestrians are the most vulnerable road users. For evaluating and modifying pedestrian safety in unsignalized crosswalks, the first important issue is to identify and explore factors affecting the interaction behavior of pedestrians andvehicles in conflict areas. By analyzing those factors and determining how they affect road user's behavior, we canrepresent the plans and proc...
متن کاملA Study of Pedestrian Movement on Crosswalks Based on Chaos Theory
Walking, as an important transportation mode, plays a large part in urban transportation systems. This mode is of great importance for planners and decision-makers because of its impact on environmental and health aspects of communities. However, this mode is so complex in nature that makes it difficult to study or model. On the other hand, chaos theory studies complex dynamical nonlinear syste...

The study of pedestrian behavior covers wide topics, including way finding, choice and decision make, as well as spatial cognition and environmental perception. To address the problem, simulation is now put forward as suitable technique and method for analyzing human spatial behavior. In the paper we present a development architecture for simulating tracking pedestrian in a distributed environm...
